The Governor of the state of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, has accepted defeat in the just concluded senatorial by-election in Osun West and has congratulated the winner, Otunba Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although, Aregbesola’s candidate, Mudashiru Hussein, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was defeated by Adeleke, the APC governor said that the people have decided but declared that his party would be back stronger.
Recall that Professor Olaide Lawal, Returning Officer of the Osun West senatorial by-election, stated that Adeleke won nine of the ten local government areas where the election took place while Hussein could only deliver one local government.
According to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke scored a total of 97, 280 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hussein, who polled 66, 115 votes.
Reacting to the results, Aregbesola wrote on Twitter: “I congratulate Ademola Adeleke on his victory at the polls yesterday. The people have spoken. Democracy won and we respect the people’s choice.”
“I thank our supporters for their continued show of commitment to our cause. Important lessons have been learnt and we will be back stronger.
“Most importantly, I thank the people of Osun for once again displaying the qualities of true Omoluabis. Our election was devoid of violence.”
