The Belgian striker arrives in a £75million deal and could be the biggest signing of the summer should Lukaku fire United back to the top of the Premier League table.
It is a big coup for United and an ambitious move and the announcement came at around the same time as Liverpool confirmed a new signing.
Chelsea youth star Dominic Solanke has joined the Reds to officially become their second summer signing.

It has been known for some time that Liverpool would be signing Solanke, but he was only confirmed on Monday when his Chelsea contract expired – not too long after United’s Lukaku announcement.
Solanke is 19 years old and his transfer fee has yet to be decided with a tribunal in line to set the fee while Lukaku could cost United as much as £90m.
And United fans could not help but troll their Liverpool rivals for their timing, but of course there were plenty of Reds to fire back at the abuse.

All crying because we'd not announced Solanke yet, now you're crying because we announced him on the same day Man Utd announced Lukaku?
